Bill Preparation for States

By Ruchi Patel

As we get closer to states, more and more preparation and time is taken to perfect bills and finalize them. Our chapter, here at Fort Myers High School has been doing several mock bill run through so that delegates are able to adapt to the process of presenting a bill and asking questions on it before states. Sydney Eskin, from Sky Delegation, is a senior that has been in Youth In Government since her freshman year, and now is a second year delegate in the leg program. Eskin has come up with an idea that would be a big hit among the younger generation that is attending college. Her bill is about restoring Bright Futures back to 100% . She has created this bill because she knows that scholarships and financial aide are not always enough to help kids get through college. Also, many kids work very hard through their high school career, but still do not receive enough recognition for their hard work through bright futures, because they have decreased the amount of money they give to students over the years to less than 50%. “I thought of this idea because I personally am about to enter college and I just recently signed up to receive bright futures money,” Eskin states. She also said, “If the lotto money fund was created for bright futures it should be going towards that, because it would help make this generation of kids more successful and less stress free when it comes time to pay bills.”
The bill was made to help college students that are about to enter college and have worked hard to get to this point in their life. Many kids go through these rigorous programs in high school and have such good grades at the end of their high school career, so they should be rewarded for that. Also, if the money from the lotto fund isn’t going towards Bright Futures, where is it going? “We should do everything we can to help make this upcoming generation of students the best they can possibly be."
Without this bill being passed, students will have to pay numerous amounts of loans back after they finish their college path and continue on to their career. Also, if we don’t pass this bill,  the money that is created from lotto fund to give to Bright Futures will continue to decrease and will leave no bright futures money at all for the generations behind us. Let’s help give these college students the
