New Bills on the Rise

Courtney Hersch
Sky Family Delegation

As all the chapters around Florida grow, new delegates, such as Madison Hersch, are shown to live up to par. Not only are they growing accustomed to how to operate in the YIG world, but also their ideas are above superb.
Madison Hersch, from Sky Delegation, is a freshman that has just become a part of the YIG Family. Hersch has come up with an idea that hits close to home with all the highschool aged – the bill is about the very own school system. She has created a bill which says that at least one guidance counselor should have at least twelve college credit hours in child psychology.
“I thought of this idea because I personally know people that have had trouble mentally and really need help,” Hersch states, “Right now, guidance counselors aren’t qualified enough to help these people.”
The bill was made to help students such as those that have depression, bulimia, anorexia, and so much more. There are so many students that have suffered from conditions such as these for reasons such as stress from school. But students shouldn’t have to suffer the consequences of having those conditions.
“People with mental disabilities are more likely to have a lower GPA, and are more likely to use drugs and alcohol. These students deserve to have the help that they need to get back on their feet psychologically, mentally and socially.” Hersch says.
Without this bill being passed, students are suffering everyday, and nobody knows. Identifying signs are even harder to recognize and assisting the students to return back to normal is an even more difficult task. Let’s help these students become all they could be, without any limitations.
